I do look for the same thing, saying that maybe autumn is not quite yet done...but I do the same thing when I search for the first glimpse of green, to tell me that Spring is arriving. Out here in the PNW, moss is sorta a teaser.
I can no longer pretend it's fall with 5 degrees and snow falling. :-)
