Happy Thoughts

After the previous post of blood and guts, it's now time for some Happy Thoughts. One of those memes started who knows where by who knows and brought to you most recently by Phillip at Dirt Therapy.

I am supposed to list eight things that make me happy and then make eight other people be happy. Or something like that.

1. It's here. It's finally here. It fell in several different forms over the course of the day and I have yet to see very many fat fluffy flakes, but I am officially declaring this as snow. I saw very firm clear rain, tiny white pellets, bigger white hail balls, then rain, then rain mixed with frozen blobs, a period of what looked like real flakes and now back to big pellets. Whatever. It's snow! Now it just has to melt before I drive anywhere.

2. I have my fingers crossed, but I think I may have plugged all the holes in the resident gardeners house where the mice were getting in. (For now.) Tomorrow in the fresh snow I can go look for tiny little paw prints and see where they lead. And see who else beside the possum might be lurking around out there at night. The silly possum fell off the deck last night.

3. Nature makes me happy because it just is. There is no judgment in Nature, no hidden motives. Nature measures time, it does not march to the beat of it. The rock may be millions of years old, but it only exists in the present. When I walk in the woods I am reminded of these things. That helps me not get angry with the mice and try my derndest to out smart the little bastards.

Oh the rules. Here are the rules.

When tagged, you must link to the person who tagged you. Post these rules before your list, (Ooops) then list 8 thoughts that make you happy. At the end of your list, you must tag and link 8 other people.

4. Gardening makes me happy because it brings Nature to my doorstep on a daily basis and allows me to interact instead of just observe.

5. Great Performances by people who have mastered a talent. It is as close as humans can get to the divine. I'm talking about things like Cirque du Soleil, Pilobolus, singers like Josh Groban or a group like Sweet Honey on the Rock though it can span a wide range of human endeavour. You can tell the difference from a regular performance because you are just in awe and may even get chicken skin.

6. My friends and family who love me despite my often lack of proper protocol in showing them that I love them too. I'm not going to win any awards from Miss Manners.

7. Unexpected free stuff like seeds and bulbs, fluffy brown robes and Garden Sloggers that leave footprints in the snow.

8. Being sober makes me happy. Unless you've been a drunk you may not know that all happiness starts with being sober.

Now for the evil part, the eight Tagees, where I will stray a bit from convention and may not get much of a response.

The Taming of the Band-Aid
Flatbush Gardener
Garden Porn
The Home Garden Yes Dave you, you're tagged.

Quiet in the last month, but good reading.
I Blame the Patriarchy
As the Tumor Turns

And
Improvisations
The Daily Dish

The Happy Thoughts are now over.

Eight good thoughts, but #3 especially spoke to me. Well said.

"Happiness starts with being sober".

Just not right away [g].

I will try to do your list justice.

I'll give it a shot. I've got plenty of things to be happy about so why not!

I found your blog through Carol at May Dreams Garden. I was quite happy to find your blog. I will be reading your blog and drooling over all your rocks. I have also had a possum in the garden this fall. It freaks-out our dog, Luna.

Speaking of Luna, love the photo of the moon, snow and snow covered bush.
