Buzz

Back home after a ten and a half hour drive from Michigan today,

My body is still buzzing a bit from the road trip. Things have grown and there is much to do. Tomorrow will be a fine day for that.

Nice to go but better to be home. It does make the body feel funny for a couple days. Soon it will settle down & all will be well.
Glad you are home safe.

Welcome home, Christopher! I so enjoyed meeting you in person and having some time to visit! Tell Ani if she makes it to Katy to visit her relatives, she must let me know. I'd be delighted to see her!

Happy to hear your travels went well, and welcome home! I've been lurking on your site for a while (love it!) and have a gardening question you may be able to answer...

I am growing hybrid sugar babies watermelons in a container with certified organic soil. I water daily in the evenings and am discovering in this barrel (it's black plastic), the fruit begins to grow, then stops growing and wilts off. What's causing this and how do I stop it from continuing? I have noticed a slight powder mildow webbing on some of the leaves...

I've looked in the Rodale's book and can't quite find this problem in there to "troubleshoot".

Any insight you can offer would be appreciated.

Christopher, a real treat to meet you and get to talk for a while. Ani was delightful and I really enjoyed her knowledge of the buildings we saw. Glad you made it home safe and sound.

LOL-I can tell from your photos you are a night owl! And I'm glad I wasn't the last one to return home. :)

Lola it certainly does take a couple of days to settle back in.

Cindy it was equally a pleasure for Ani and me to meet you. Ani was surprised by how interesting, articulate and complex the group was. She was expecting total plant nerds and found people of great substance.

Barbara we enjoyed having a drink with you too. It is nice to be able to spend some one on one time with folks.

Hi Michelle. I can't know for sure, but my best guess would be that the flowers are not getting pollinated or it is too cold/cool for the watermelon to set fruit. I have been having a rough go with cantaloupe and think it is too cool up here for them.

Beckie, a pleasure to meet you too. Ani would have been happy to go on the architecture boat ride again. She had done that on another visit there.

Hi Monica. Tis true. I don't wake up for a while after I get out of bed and come more alive in the evening. Yea, I went back to Michigan before heading home.
