Joe Pye Is Here

The Tall Flower Meadow progresses onward. By the 1st of August Joe Pye is fully in the house.

Joe Pye marks the beginning of the last real month of summer.

I am fairly certain the Heptacodium miconioides is dead. It should not look like this at the beginning of the last month of summer. It should be getting ready to bloom. It will have to come down in the winter chop and drop. The only hope may be alive in the stump. It was perfectly fine, robust and happy. Then it was dead with no visible symptoms of anything.

Today there was rain, enough rain to send me home, enough rain to cause some minor house cleaning, enough rain to stay on the front porch looking over a lush meadow filled with Joe Pye.

Death of course will not deter a gardener. There will always be more plants to try. Meet Vernonia lettermanii 'Iron Butterfly'. Where will I find a home for them in the Tall Flower Meadow? At two to three feet high, this ironweed is a pygmy by my ten foot high Ironweed standards. They will need to be placed in a short section of the meadow.

Yea right, the short section in the meadow.

Nothing like new plants for the garden. I love the foliage of the Amsonia.

I thought this Ironweed was Amsonia from a distance Lisa. I was going to go fondle it and consider buying it. I have planted Amsonia seedlings and think some are still here. They are just too small to easily find. I can get more free so buying was iffy. When I saw it was a short Vernonia, I grabbed two of them fast.
