39 and Holding

Count to 39 and stop, even though there are closer to 50 blooms here.

In the next day or so there could be 39 Daffodils open. We can stop counting after that.

Cause let me tell you there are thousands and thousands more to come after that.

My goodness Christopher. Did you plant all of these crocus and daffodils? I must have missed what is going on. they are just gorgeous no matter how they got there.

No Lisa I did not plant these. What you are about to see over the next few weeks is in my borrowed garden next door, planted by my mom the crazy bulb lady and her assistant my father.

This abundance will be a nucleus for my own gardens created over the next few years.

I've never seen anything like this.

That patch of crocus is astounding.

It's like you've stumbled in to some kind of strange Willie Wonka Land o' Bulbs.

What a wonderland of surprise! I'm glad Lisa asked who planted them, so very many, but over a period of years or all at once?

Wow... when most of them are in bloom, will you take some pictures of the drifts? (I'm trying to imagine how many bulbs a "crazy bulb lady" could have tucked into the soil there. I bet it's amazingly beautiful!)

Chuck, it is astounding. I knew there were a lot o' bulbs, but more are still coming up. I haven't really mentioned all the mior bulbs like Chionodoxa, Ipheion and Allium that are here.

Kim, I am waiting for the perfect shot of drifts of gold along the ridge. I would say that is still two weeks away at least.

Frances, My parents have been planting bulbs here for 20 years. Now they spread by seed along with traditional division and catalog purchases. I suggested to the crazy bulb lady yesterday that she needed to change her marking of clumps that need division to a two colored system. One color flag for clumps needing division and a second color to mark open spots in the bulb carpet.

Was your birthday yesterday, or is it today?

Sometimes the borrowed landscape is the best kind! I wish I knew a "crazy bulb lady." I hate planting bulbs - it hurts my wrists. That looks gorgeous already - how do you stand such beauty when it's in full bloom?

I turned 39 for the twelfth time yesterday.

MMD, I'm waiting to find out how I'll stand such a show. Pray for proper weather. Another storm is a commin'.
