Up On The Parkway

On Monday we went for a drive on the Blue Ridge Parkway. There is more than one scenic byway is this part of the world.

We stopped for lunch at the Pisgah Inn. It is way way up at the top of North Carolina.

The forest stretched as far as the eye could see which is some distance despite the haze which I actually think was smoke from all the fires out in the Pacific Northwest. I know that orange glow of light in the setting sun. Only smoke does that.

The New England asters were beginning to bloom.

One dead tree remained standing.

A butterfly on thistle.

The parkway is at its highest elevation in Haywood County, North Carolina. We were riding along at 5,000 to 6,000 feet up. There were views all over the place.

And lots of goldenrod along the mowed edges.

I even saw a gentian.

And that was my Day Without Labor.

You needed a day without labor. Beautiful scenery.
