Brrrr! The second snow of the season is coming with winter kind cold.
The hardest part of winter has begun, adjusting to the new temperature reality. The transition is always a little daunting. Then I adjust.
Would you believe there is a native plant that chooses to bloom at this time of year. Hamamelis viginiana, the native Witch Hazel blooms in late October to November. I guess there is little to no competition for pollinators then. I planted another red flowered Witch Hazel, Hamamelis x intermedia 'Diane' that will bloom in late winter/early spring for some early season color when other wise things are still pretty bleak.
There are three other creatures here adjusting to the new reality. Oh the joys of quality indoor time for three kitties with destructive habits who are not fond of the cold.
We will all survive, with just a bit more wear and tear.

Love that Witch Hazel. Sure wish it would grow here. "11/12/13" sure has started out right. Uncle Ernie sure looks like he is getting cold.
