The Last Tree In The Forest

The barren time is near.

And that is when the native Witch Hazel, Hamamelis virginiana blooms.

Soon the last herbaceous plant standing will be the dried husks of the tall grasses.

I'm hoping there will be many naps involved with the barren time.

Love that tree. Grasses are not to be ignored. Love them.

I have never seen such a large Witch Hazel. WOW it is a beauty. I have one in my garden. Only two years old. Small of course. It is blooming now too. When I bought it it had a tag that said it was a Diane. Not so, but I love it anyway. I have hope now that it gets big and pretty like this one.

Lola the grasses will become very important in the next couple of months to have something to look at. My baby evergreeens are growing pretty slow.

Lisa it could be your Diane was grafted and the graft died and you ended up with the native Hamamelis. Here they are small understory trees about 15 feet tall on the biggest ones.
