A Fire Before The Storm

It was 50 degrees today and all the snow melted. You'd never know we are headed into Siberolina tomorrow if today was supposed to be a clue. There is a clean slate now for the next winter blast.

I couldn't waste a perfectly good day and headed into the sunny utility meadow to light me a fire and burn up more rubbish.

About three years ago an initial cleanup was done around the chimney on the left side to reclaim it from the forest and to incorporate it into the cultivated part of the meadow. This new cleanup has swept through the forest on the other side of the chimney. A huge new swath of ground is now open for more planting.

You can see in this picture why it amounts to a roadside attraction. There were all kinds of foot prints in the snow around it yesterday.

This has been hands down the most annoying rubbish pile in the entire wild cultivated gardens. It's on the chimney's good side and made taking pictures a pain. Who wants to see a rubbish pile with my nice chimney? I got started on breaking it up. The next fire will remove it.

I'm not quite sure about those logs though. They are too big to burn like that. Maybe I'll just arrange them nicely. Those logs are from 2007 when the utility company came through and did a major chop and drop. That's how long it can take to get around to some chores on this mountain. There will be a nice new patch of ground for planting here too.

There truly is a great deal of unused space inside the borders of the wild cultivated gardens. Slowly over the years I am laying claim to it. Even if it is left to the wild there is no reason it can't be tidy. If we must be a roadside attraction, well then, it should be attractive. Five dolla. You want a tour?

Holy Cow that was warm. Good to make more planting space. It all looks so good. No wonder it is a road stop for peepers.
