Your garden makes me want to find a bigger and somewhat less windy property - turnover in my squares is fast but forces the choices, as when some fresh sweet strawberries means less room for the carrots and da kine. [sigh] Never enough space, it seems. Mel's Square Foot Garden concept does work... until the wind flings the vines down. Sweet corn never gets over 3 feet before it "lodges" at 40+ degree angles, and the pollen probably lands about in Puunene. I really have to build that wind barricade! I keep making crappy little stick supports, which now are holding up to the big gusts, but even the tulle wraps started tearing, letting the whole thing fly up like a lolo kite. PVC frames with bird-net or deer-fence reinforced materials deserve a trial, I think. You have the trees for a green windbreak for your garden, Chris - but I'm along a edge of a gulch about 150 feet deep, so the wind can amp itself despite the crotons ( they seem to duck behind the block wall!). Hey, I'm not complainin', seriously!

Nice distraction. Need to put this on my wish list.

Pomaika'i, move to Kihei or Olawalu. That'll get you out of the wind.
