My Shiny Balls

Did not come with any safety warnings like do not climb a frozen ladder in the snow in fifteen degrees or any wise sayings like patience is a virtue. Instead my shiny balls arrived screaming to be put on display. I put them on display.

Then I decided they needed to be centered. The next thing you know I am lying on the frozen ground wondering if I broke my leg. No, just my dignity.

I have suffered for the sake of art and my balls still aren't centered. The finish nail in the pinhole didn't work. Now I will do patience and work on a plan B.

They are much more visible from a distance than a picture shows. They are clearly visible from the road, particularly when the sun is shining on them.

There is one more attraction along scenic byway.

Christopher, you crack me up:) When I saw this post title, it made me think of the old SNL sketch with Alec Baldwin and his Schwety meatballs.

So pretty! Art isn't always perfect--I'd wait till warmer weather to try to adjust these, as Lola says.

Yes, minor injuries have led me to think waiting for the snow to melt is a good idea. I could also decide they really don't need to be centered, but that is a tough one for my mild case of OCD.

I'm glad you posted that last photo - in my mind, I've been seeing these as some kind of human-scale poles (not more than a few to 8 feet high). That photo shows they are impressively a whole lot taller than I pictured.

If I had had any shiny balls, they would have been frozen. Finally got spring water working today with a temporary patch. Tomorrow, will get a permanent fix, along with a fix for the well water(I hope). We got down to -3.1 and I am sure you were colder. Ready for spring..or at least warmer weather.

Cheryl they were two locust trees too close to the house that I had cut off even in height with each other. I have never measured them, but I'd say they are 15 and 12 feet high, the taller one being down slope.

Dianne I was a steady -8 Monday night to Tuesday morning. Only had the kitchen sink hot water line freeze and no breakage. I added heat tape at the well head and in my plumbing box, let the faucet drip during the deep cold and used the water repeatedly. I included a late night load of laundry and dishes and kept running the hot water in the shower just to help add heat in the plumbing box below the house. I think my efforts paid off.

Oh, wow - now you have esotrophic orbs, depending on your point of view. Perhaps you could have an assistant to steady the ladder, and to assess the results from ground level. Or - leave the as is, squinting through the wrinkly baskets. That's my thought on it.

Don't tell me they are esotrophic Barry cause then I will need to do corrective surgery.

As one who has broken her ankle twice in the last 18 months, I say stay off the ladder till spring! T'ain't worth it, believe me. Your shiny balls can be off center a little while. (giggle)

Bev the snow is all gone, but I have been a bit afraid to get back on the ladder. Besides I have no Plan B yet for keeping my shiny balls centered. My right ankle is one thing that took a hit just above the knobby bone that sticks out. I guess it is sprained. It's swollen and purple in places. No pain thank goodness. I just walked it off.
