It's Official

The hibiscus I grew from seed that came to me from Kim at Instrument of Grace have returned for two years running. This year they have bloomed for the first time. The flower is bigger than the entire still baby plant. I think they are here to stay.

The tile floor is done. Do you believe it? I finished the last bit of grout today and half of it is already sealed. In a few days I will seal the remaining grout lines and at some point give it a good cleaning to remove the little bit of left over grout haze. But hooray, hooray, the tile floor is done.

Now I will tile the shower walls. After some planning and contemplation.

The viburnum berries are turning red. I think that means something.

Up north liriope actually blooms faithfully every year and puts on quite a show. It never did that down south or in the tropics.

The ridge top garden has had an official name change.

It was Bonnie Brae all along, named after my paternal grandmother's garden on the St. John's river in Jacksonville, Florida. After thinking about it for too many years and a year of procrastination after the sign, hardware and posts were bought, the official christening has arrived. Will I be able to switch from the ridge top garden to Bonnie Brae? By the way it means 'Green Hill' in this reference.

And the sun has set on another day at the low spot on a North Carolina mountain top,

aka Bonnie Brae.

Wow, I just love these huge blooms of hibiscus. It was worth waiting for. It makes quite a statement. So does your beautiful floor. Your sign and post is nice. I really like the name. I bet you will eventually come to call your mountain top Bonnie Brae. It sounds very Irish of you, or is it Scottish??

I live 60 miles west of Houston, Texas and my liriope has bloomed every year for the last 40 years that I have had it. How 'South' is Houston?

Oh my goodness. That brought tears to my eyes, Christopher. The sign is beautiful. Bonnie Brae it is. My best to your sweet parents. :-)

I think I prefer Ridge Top garden, maybe because I grew up in the UK the lush foliage and trees of your NC ridges does not bring to mind a brae which is generally treeless, rough grass and yes, green but not lush.
Good to have one job finished, now onto the next - knocking them off one by one. What will you do when it is all finished!

I totally agree with Frances.

Oh, I too love Bonnie Brae. A special name with special meaning. The sign is gorgeous! Will the cozy cabin and its gardens in progress have their own name? If so, what might that be?

The tile floor looks spectacular. You must be elated to have that huge job behind you and that the finished project looks so great. Now on to the shower tiling. :-)

I know what you mean about the comtemplation. I had to stare at my kitchen floor for the better part of a week to get the tiles right. Congratulations on one finished project.
