While I Was Out

My wood burning neighbor was pimping out more of my dead hemlocks to my cabin building neighbor. My cabin building neighbor is getting even more logs to cut into lumber for a cabin. My wood burning neighbor is getting time with the cabin building neighbor's backhoe for other projects.

I might be getting the short end of this bargain, but since those dead hemlocks were just going to stand there and slowly crumble under my management, anything I get due to the wood pimp's efforts is an unexpected bonus. It actually feels kind of nice that my cabin building neighbor is going to make use of these once majestic trees.

I am getting more of a view. I'll need a bench.

I certainly could not have afforded to have all these dead hemlocks taken down. It is things like this that make me realize again that my life is often blessed. I was minding my own business and good fortune found me. Much better than dead hemlocks falling on me. I will happily clean up the bit of a mess that is bound to be left when they are done. Those dangerous trees are gone and I will have more of a view.

This will be the last chance at heavy work like this before spring commences in earnest. This flat section of ground with the new and improved view will need some time for the scars to fade before a gathering of 90 plus garden bloggers arrive in May and I park them next to my piles of dung for a lunch buffet.

I wonder what weeds will have come up and what will be blooming then.

Maybe you could have the cabin builder make you a bench from the hemlock logs too small for his use? Sounds like a good trade off to me.

Excellent idea Frances. I think Christopher has a good thing going here.

As for what weeds will pop up - if the plant is in a decent location and provides a decent bloom or other contibution, I change its title from weed to volunteer. I have some exceptionally vigorous and productive yellow pear tomatoes that have commandeered the entryway roses for their trellis, wih the only downside (aside from ridicule by nosy passersby)being the occasional sharp thorn when I tickle the ripe maters to jump into my hand. Oh, yeah, I think your earthworms have first dibs on the dung buffet.
