Time To Whack The Great Lawn

It's time. The Great Lawn needs a haircut before visitors arrive on Sunday. I want them to experience the full effect of a garden carved out of the wild.

The paths I carved across it two weeks ago suited me fine temporarily. But when it was created, the Great Lawn instantly became an integral part of the over all garden and a major destination point. It calls you down into the garden.

The paths are great for letting you wander unimpeded and free to scout the garden for interesting botanicals.

Not many gardens offer you the chance to view great quantities of wild trilliums in safety and comfort. This trillium is safe. Unfortunately some trilliums will be sacrificed in the mowing of the Great Lawn.

It can't be avoided to make the space what it needs to be for the garden.

It's time for all the paths to lead to the large open space of the Great Lawn, even that brown one on the right.

That is where a lot of the drop from the chop and drop of the slope above ended up. I piled it there to decompose. I feel quite certain in another month it will have turned green. For now it is one less section of path to whack.

I know the Great Lawn needs to be whacked but the trilliums?

A few trilliums will be lost Lola, but there are hundreds more.

Get to chopping. Company is coming. Lucky they who get to wander the mountain side.
