Sneak Peek At The 2016 Haywood County Garden Tour

Here are some things you might see if you come on the Haywood County Garden Tour next Saturday, June 18th. I went on the pre-tour with the master gardeners since I will be volunteering in the garden I tend on tour day. We moved quickly. You can take your time.

We saw a relatively new, beautifully tended orchard, berry and honey farm in Canton.

I would buy produce from here at the farmer's market in Waynesville just because listening to the owner talk about her farm made me happy. All our food should come from gardens like this.

At the Canton library there is a nice teaching garden and monarch way station.

Down by the river, things are already beginning to bloom.

There are ways to have flowers everyday of the year.

And color in shady corners.

Come see half of Haywood County in one visit.

These low elevation gardens sure are ahead of my roadside vegetable garden.

This spacious garden is made for slow strolling.

There was plenty of sun for flowering borders.

And shady streamside plantings that were impossible to photograph in the bright dappled light on a cloudless day.

Art in the gardens was abundant.

I'm a firm believer in borrowed scenery when it is appropriate.

I have resisted this temptation, Acanthus mollis, thinking it wouldn't be hardy here. It might not be up high. Temptations, temptations.

Look. Up in the sky. It's a....? What is that thing? You will have to come on the 2016 Haywood County Garden Tour to find out.

Wish I lived closer; I bet it will be great.
What about acanthus spinosus? Supposed to be hardier; they recommend it around here in MD but I have yet to try it.
