GGW Photo Contest

Gardening Gone Wild has a monthly photo contest and I was paying enough attention this month to enter. The theme for this month is Down on Your Knees. The object being to look at the garden from a new perspective. I read the judge, David Perry's, directions several times and this is what resonated with me the most, "The images should be about seeing first and the garden subjects second. They need to evoke mood, and elicit some sort of emotional, poetic, or Oh my goodness! response."

Only one entry is allowed. This is my submission. As always you can click on any image to enlarge it.

I Brake For Weeds

Crawling around in a garden and looking at things from below knee level is not in any way a new thing for me or most gardeners. Taking photographs that way might be a bit more unusual, but I will admit to making all kinds of contortions to get the picture I want. Keeping with the theme I thought I would post a couple of the rejects for the photo contest. While nice in their own way, they did not evoke the emotional response in me that the one I chose for submission did.

Beneath The Carrot Tops

Big Dreams

It was enjoyable looking at the photographs of all the other entries. Good luck to all of you.

I have to say, my favorite is "Big Dreams." But they're all nice. Good luck.

I agree with Grace, Big Dreams is my favorite as well. I also enjoyed your Bloom Day post. The flowers that you show really fit in with your setting. I am surprised more people don't stop.

Yes, going down that lonesome highway it is nice to see a familiar face. I like all of your photos. Good luck.

Grace and Les, I sure hope I did not pick the wrong one to submit. The contest is more for fun anyway and goes with the photographers who do posts on improving your picture taking.

Lisa I know a lot of us scan the side of the road while we drive.

I like the one you chose Christopher. The Queen is there & one follows the road hoping to see the court. I know the Queen is important but sometimes amongst the court there is that special one that will evoke the heart strings.
All as usual are fantastic.
Best of Luck.

Hi Christopher, your titles are as entertainng as the photos. The Big Dreams does indeed elicit a strong emotional charge, before the details of the photography come into view. Good luck, that one looks like a winner! :-)

Funny, I like Beneath the Carrot Tops the best. Did you hand the camera over to a gopher for that one? I guess the hazard of putting up your rejects is agonizing over the decision as everyone praises them, but anyone whose reject shots are that good has nothing to complain about.

Lola I hope the judge likes that one best too.

Frances your Helleborus Beeline is going to be hard to beat. You have the Wow factor.

Siria, Big Dreams is pretty and is my favorite as well. I was just going for the "way of seeing" objective first. I've seen the underside of flowers more than once. It wasn't new enough for me.

Hi Ditto. Yes there is a certain element of doubt now, but this isn't make me a millionaire. Thought like a grasshopper that are plaguing the vegetable garden this year is more like it.
