It's all about location and elevation. Depending upon where you go and which direction you look, fall may be at peak or fall may be on the way out. The snow just missed us again, but brother got a dusting at the house they rented on another mountain and three hundred feet higher in elevation. Winter keeps tapping at the door.
High on the low spot autumn is nearly done. There is less and less left to fall.
This is when the native Witch Hazel, Hamamelis virginiana blooms.
And more bizarrely a bearded iris has decided to bloom. There is some recollection that some of the catalog ordered iris were said to be re-bloomers. No one was going to hold her breath for it though.
This is what happens to a garden when weeding is a bit lackadaisical all season long.
It turns blue.

I don't think there is anything wrong with blue. Love it.
Winter is arriving but still plenty to admire. That was a beauty to appear late. Love that color.
