It's Almost Over

The last bit of color has grown incredibly intense.

It dwindles by the day as leaves fall.

Another cold front is coming. Another meager chance of rain is included. Either way it will be cold on the other side. Cold is good. It was a freakish 80 degrees yesterday afternoon on the mountain top. I saw the first confused daffodils coming up in a client's garden.

I got to stay home and enjoy another beautiful day today. I cleaned up the DOT's mess before the EMC could see it and get any bad ideas. I had a nice afternoon nap.

This is the part where I whine. I stayed home because a radiator hose in my truck was gushing critical fluids. There was no way I would have been able to make it to town without overheating an engine with 187,000 miles on it. My clothes washer is broke. The chainsaw won't start. My life is falling apart and it all costs money I do not have.

I have a rescue and hose repair tentatively scheduled for tomorrow morning. If not I may need to take the bike down, but then it has a flat tire. Washing machine repair, I hope, is scheduled for Saturday. The chainsaw can wait.

I went for a slow stroll on a beautiful autumn day of course and found a perfectly round hole in the slope along the main entry path. A really big wasp nest used to live there. It was such a nice hole I now worry someone else might want to move in for the winter.

When the leaves are gone the grasses will remain. I could start the chop and drop for the under garden any time, but I am still enjoying the white froth phase of seed dissemination.

The native Witch Hazel, Hamamelis virginiana, are having an excellent bloom in a year of heat and drought.

They are in the EMC danger zone and are all tagged with bright orange tape. I just assume I will have to explain to the tree butchers who they are and that they are shrubs to small trees that will never get close to the power lines, so Leave Them Alone!

It's almost over. The barren time draws near.

--it always comes in waves. I hope all is settled soon. Must have transportation. I hope the utility people don't think that the orange tape means to remove them. UGH... Witch Hazel is blooming here too.

Lisa, Lisa, Lisa, don't say such things about the orange tape on my Witch Hazels. One would hope the tape on the smaller shrubberies they wouldn't think of chopping would translate to the same message. I called and have heard nothing back. This morning I got to watch the DOT mow the trees and the slope below directly in front of my house. Not bad. I knew to plant away from the long arm of a dull blade.
