I Smell Like Dog

Right after I finish this post I am going to go let the kitties get a good whiff of me.

These are my new friends. The black one has better manners, but as you can see she sits on daffodils. We can't have that. Rosie get you butt off those daffodils.

The tan mottled one likes to jump up on you and is a bit more hyper, but she was the first to come close and check me out. The black one followed after the initial contact. It is a shame she has her eyes closed. They are different colors. Wanda open your eyes and sit. I said sit.

Of course they are as skinny as can be and inhale their food without bothering to chew it. I do not think it would be a good idea to feed them until they stop eating.

I hate you people who do this to me. Listen up stupids. Domestic dogs can not hunt! They are starving to death or could get hit by a car out on the road. Take your unwanted pets to the pound. I should not have to take care of your responsibility. There are two choices. They die out here scared, hungry and alone or they take their chances that a nice responsible person will adopt and love them from the pound. Idiots!!

Thank you, Chris, for feeding them and calling the pound. It makes me sick when people (can you really call them that) dump animals.

I love Wanda and her closed eyes.

There needs to be mandatory jail sentences for people who do this. We had neighbors at our old house who moved and could not take their dog with them. Their solution was to tie her up on the back porch, during winter, on the occasion of her first heat, and then leave here for someone else to find. The poor thing was deaf (common among Dalmations) and they always complained she wouldn't listen to their commands. I took her to a no-kill rescue center where she was adopted soon thereafter.

Idiots for sure. Heartbreaking too. They look sweet (I like their names). I'm so glad they've had some food.

When I was in graduate school in Michigan, I lived on 100 acres in the middle of nowhere - a wonderful place that I found to rent. Dogs were dropped off their all of the time, and I was always scrambling to find people to adopt them (and of course a few stayed with me - including 'Handsome Lloyd' who I found in a ditch in front of my house one Easter Sunday morning - he had been thrown out of a car, or so the vet thought). Each stray that wandered onto my place made me like (some) humans less.

My dogs are horrible with cats that I don't introduce them to - are the dogs aware of the cats yet, or are just the cats aware of the dogs?

People like that are idiots... one of our cats is one that was no doubt dumped (while pregnant) in a park. She could not hunt well enough to sustain herself and was horribly thin.

Sallysmom I am prepared now and keep dog food on hand.

Les you may have Wanda. Come and get her. I am glad it is warm now for the dogs, just not for the daffodils.

Pam I don't know if being a dog person like you would make dealing with the abandoned easier or harder. I tend to be a little afraid and cautious of unknown dogs. Still it breaks my heart to see any animal treated with such disrespect.

Sweetbay that is how I got my two cats Crawford and Collar. Their mama, Spot, showed up with six week old kittens and disappeared when they were a year old. She got fixed long before she left though.

That is awful for someone to just leave an animal like that. I wonder how they would feel if someone left them like that.
I've said that if you can't take proper care of anything you don't need it.
I'm glad you fed them & gave them water. They do look kinda harmless but you can never tell.

Forgot. Pam the cats are very aware of the dogs being here. They have been around since at least Tuesday. It is hard to imagine they got that skinny so quickly though. I don't know the dogs well enough to tell if they are aware of the cats. They have to be able to smell them, now that they have moved onto the deck where the cats like to lounge. The power of food.

Lola I think next I will need to invest in some collars and leashes. This is the third time dogs have been left here.

That breaks my heart. And, frankly, makes me hope against my own beliefs for the existence of some kind of purgatory--you know, where the dump-ers get left and abandoned repeatedly.

You are a good steward of your mountain top.

Thank you, but no!

When we were in Fla. I was shocked to see signs in all the parks warning of a fine for abandoning animals there. Ugh! Having volunteered in a shelter I can't understand why people won't just drop them off. There is no fee and no scolding. Bless you for feeding those skinny runts. Yes, I would keep the cats away from them...

I have an acquaintance who is involved with Rainbow Rescue. Perhaps you need to get in touch with that organization. http://rainbowrescue.org. particularly if you think your location is going to set you up for repeat incidences.
