Near Fall

The autumnal equinox has been delayed until the 23rd this year so it seems. I assumed tomorrow would be Fall. This warm dry weather we have been having makes the delay seem reasonable. And the burst of flowering perennials that has swept over the mountain top in the last two weeks makes the idea of fall almost foreign.

Speaking of foreign, the Japanese Anemone are having a stellar year.

One of at least three native species of goldenrod here, I think Solidago roanensis, is also putting on a nice show. This one actually does well in the shadier places in the wild cultivated garden.

A little fall like color has also landed on my living room walls. I like it. I'm ok with it. I like it.

Please stop changing colors with the light!!!! On one wall it is lovely. On the other so so. Of course it changes color as it dries too. In every picture it shows up a different shade and the color will vary from one computer monitor to the next.

I like it. I'm ok with it. I'll live with it for a while and see how it works in all the variations of light that will pass over and through the cozy cabin.

The New England Asters are here, Symphyotrichum novae-angliae. I'd be happier with them if they were not five to six feet tall and leaning when they bloom. The five foot tall Impatiens capensis behind the asters at least have the decency to stand up or fall to the ground completely. Do you believe it? My wild impatiens are five feet tall.

The ridge top garden is literally an ocean of white foam now from the White Snakeroot, Ageratina altissima. The first bit of Blue Wood Aster, Symphyotrichum cordifolium in equal abundance is just beginning to bloom.

Ah, the lovely seed heads of Clematis virginiana that I hate.

It's near Fall and the Japanese Anemones are having a very good year.

What lovely blooms this time of yr. Love those asters.
The paint looks good. Amazing how it changes with the light. What color will the door be?

Hi Christopher, fall on your mountain is spectacular! I love that river of white anemones. There are so many types of asters and goldenrods here too, ID is impossible for me. I like the walls, but man, they are really different looking. Hope you are satisfied with the final result.

It sounds like you are trying to convince yourself that you like your painted walls. It looks gorgeous on my computer screen. I bet you will love it when you get your furniture, paintings and other accessories in there. It might feel a bit overwhelming right now yet I think you will love it especially this winter. It will be so cheerful. That river of anemones is marvelous.

Hi Christopher! You like the paint color of your walls, but I LOVE it! I think it looks so bright and I love the way it blends in with the wood ceilings. Once it fully dries and you get furniture in there it will look a little different too. All your blooms are so lovely now, but I love those anemones!

Lola the outside of the doors will be the blue you see on the exterior trim of the odd shaped loft windows. The insides of the doors will be white maybe.

Hang on Frances you could have a river of anemones in your future. I have trouble with aster ID too. Yes those living room walls are different.

Lisa that is what I am hoping. When it is furnished and decorated the color will blend. The new interior design theory is the room is the back drop for your stuff. Supposed to be good stuff though.

Siria if you want some anemones... I went in and looked at the color this morning before going to work. It was darker, deeper and richer in the early morning light. I think it will grow on me quite well.

Chris,
I find that if I like something right away, like the color of your wall for instance, that I tend to tire of it in a short period of time. However, If I am not sure about it and struggle with it for awhile, I tend to like it more over time. I painted my kitchen a very dark blue/purple tone and it took me a while. But now I love that color. Yellow tone paints always seem too bright or BIG until you place other objects in the room. I think you will find this color will suit you very well once you move yopur furniture in.
Another trick you can employ: If one wall always seems to be too light because of the way the light moves around your room over the day, you can have the same color paint made a slight shade darker and just paint that wall. it gives an interesting dynamic to the walls when one single tone sometimes doesn't work everywhere...

Love the fall blooms...paint colors are so difficult...I still have moments where I'm not sure about the colors I chose...a year later :-)
