I Had To Look

Once it began, the melt was so ferocious it was roaringly audible. It would not have been advisable to walk through the forest. You would have been pummeled with cold wet glops of snow and ice.

I waited until the trees were bare before surveying the grounds. I saw a broken branch on a rhododendron, but nothing really looked worse for the wear.

I worry too much. This garden is regularly wind whipped, frozen solid, buried and browsed. It always comes out smiling.

Close to four inches of heavy wet snow and the closed pointy flowers of crocus stand tall, waiting patiently for a better day.

The suspense was killing me so I went next door to look at the WUD. I think it is safe to say it is 'Ice Follies' and wudever condition it was suffering from it looks to be recovering. That disjointed petal could just be from the recent snow. The residual turmoil in the cup might could be considered a plus.

In the very same clump a perfectly normal 'Ice Follies'. Now I will have to search among the 10,000 emerging daffodils for a new WUD. That may not be too difficult. Abnormalities are not that abnormal.

All this bulb foliage and a smattering of crocus blooms is a mere hint of what is to come.

And apparently what's coming is another deluge of rain. Yea. That's what they said last time.

I worry more about the scenic byway. There were two refrigerator sized boulders coned off on the side of the road when I went to town today, a little landslide. Whoever shoved them off to the side didn't notice the giant boulder a hundred feet away that has almost wiggled free of the rock hillside above. Then there's that spring bubbling up through the road in the same general location. These last two winters have put a big hurting on the scenic byway.

Chris,
How many crocuses are in the clump in the 4th pic? They are gorgeous!

Too many to count, a bunch, oh about fifty maybe. It is an older clump that keeps expanding.

It's good that the white stuff didn't hang around long----most of it anyway.
I do believe my WUD is worse looking than yours.

The crocus blooms must bring a smile to your face when you see them amidst the snow ... they certainly did to mine!
