Is This Door Handle Annoying?

I bought a door handle for the green room on my way home from work today. One of the deciding factors in picking this particular model was that I think it will annoy a particular person. What do you think? Have I made a good annoying choice. There is a poll in the right side bar to cast your vote. Think about it now before you vote.

I see one voter couldn't even wait and cast a vote before even looking. Perhaps they were annoyed by a poll free floating in cyber space with no corroborating context. Be patient.

One day this flat cleared space behind the cozy cabin will be the site of a small two bedroom house that my friend Ani and I will build and share in our final years of decrepitude. The cozy cabin will then be the guest quarters. Ani has been a design partner all along in making choices for the cozy cabin. Like any married couple there are bound to be disagreements and miscommunications. I think we can call this door handle to the green room, Acceptance.

It could be a few years before building another house starts and I can't see letting all that flat ground in a fair amount of sun go to waste. Once the cabin construction is done, all this rubbish can be sorted through and parted with. It will be a fairly sizeable blank slate.

I was thinking about a vegetable garden annex the other day.

This door handle is not annoying. I don't know what makes you say this. It must be an inside annoyance. The handle looks quite chipper. Almost like a tendril on a vine. Very appropriate to my way of thinking.

A vegetable garden annex sounds like a great idea.
I like the door handle. It's fun looking.

Well, it could be if you wanted to hang your coat on it and it fell off! Just saying! Overall, not a bad lever door handle.

Lisa a vine tendril is good. I was thinking water swirling down a drain.

Carol how difficult do you think it would be to give up a vegetable garden annex after many years of use? I'd at least have to keep the improved soil. All the other door knobs were just plain dull. I couldn't resist this one.

Gail I will be needing an official coat rack pole thing or hooks on a wall thing in this climate for sure.

This handle seems neither soothing nor annoying - it is rather a surprising and charming detail,a bit of whimsy when compared to your other choices for the CC which tend to be unadorned, beautiful in their simplicity.

Cheryl you have hit upon why a particular person might be annoyed. It is a touch of whimsy in an otherwise very clean lined nod to modernism.

Cheryl did I also detect from your blog you are in WNC?

I don't see the knob annoying at all. In fact I just changed my front door handle to one like this. It's much easier to open for hands that are troubled.

I am annoyed as heck by that swirly doorknob! Whoever would be annoyed as well, I am on their side!!! Your long term plan is wonderful. This is the first I have heard about it being a shared experience. I am thrilled for you both. :-)

I have a similar door handle, and I like the way it looks. But what I don't like about it is the way it seems to grab the pockets of my jacket when I'm walking through while carrying something. I've made many abrupt stops!

Christopher,

A round knob would be annoying to me. We have a whole house full of those knobs, much easier to open when your hands are full.

The door handle looks like it was designed for a Tim Burton movie - love it!

Love the door handle. We have similar ones in our house. Only problem is, the cats and dog like them too--and open them at will. They are all covered by child-proof locks, which make them very annoying! Not only are they hard to open now, but quite unattractive.

Christopher, I am deiighted to learn you have a good close friend. I am very happy for you. Don’t want to interfere with your privacy, but I am delighted with this news. Best wishes to both of you for a harmonious partnership. Oh, and the sinuous curvy handle is a lovely counterpoint to all the straight lines. Lois

I love that handle! I wonder if the kitties will be able to operate it? My daughter's cat spends an inordinate amount of time attempting to open the door to her room when he's confined. If it were a lever rather than a knob, we'd be in trouble!

My dogs can open doors with handles like this and the egg shaped ones as well, which is why we have put latches on the doors above their reach. The handle is quite pretty. and as long as the metals match the other medals in the room (well there's a rule for you), Congrats on your relationship, I hope you will be very Happy...

I do have one cat, Crawford who has learned how to open these kinds of handles. That entertainment value was another reason to buy the vine tendril handle. It's the bathroom door. It could be most entertaining.

Let's see. About my relationship. I have known Ani since college in 1977. At some point we said if we find ourselves single and childless we could be old farts together. Well we are both single and childless and approaching old fartness, so why be alone? We will both still be free to date.

Working together on the interior design choices of the cabin has really brought home how much we can act like an old married couple. I guess it was meant to be.

I don't think you need to explain your private life to anyone. I'm glad tho that you have a dear friend like that. It's no fun being by ones self. A person does need someone to talk to & confide in. It is very rare to find someone that you can trust & that the 2 of you can be comfortable with each other.
Best to both of you.

The door handle says Disney princess to me. So I love it! No, I'm just kidding. I don't necessarily love it, but it is kind of fun. And it does say Disney princess.
