It Takes A Long Fall

For Japanese maples to do right.

High on the low spot is the far edge of their preferred zonage. After a rough spring from which mine did not really recover, a good fall wasn't even an option this year. I am beginning to think I may only get one good year out of every four from them.

No more Japanese maples for me. Four will have to do for now. They have a chance now while there is still room in the garden, before it fills in and before my patience wears out.

My Japanese Maples are the last to loose their leaves. They cling on to a few for a long time.

My Japanese maples have freezing issues in spring and fall that make the leaves drop.

Ours was absolutely gorgeous this year. Of course the rain got the leaves before I could take a pic.

Dianne your weather down there in the French Broad River valley is a whole zone different then me way up top. You can do JMs.

Love those Japanese Maples. Wish I had room for one.

Lola I don't think Japanese maples would take your heat. They need things just right.

My JMs are gorgeous every year. The one that gets the most sun is a little ratty looking by fall. The one in a shadier spot is the last tree to lose its leaves and the orange-red is magnificent. I got them as seedlings from a yard near Greensboro NC....they grew very tall in that garden.
