Three Days Of Warm Sunshine

I went to work kind work of course. Lucky I can start slow and warm up to full time work kind work. With longer days, there was some warm day leftover when I got home.

The stinze is beginning to rise.

I got one of three discarded amaryllis to bloom. See if I can do better next year.

You know the witches were out.

The Under Garden is looking good. I have some minor adjustments in mind come planting weather.

I told you the witches were out. Now there will be many days of rain.

All that sunshine was even good enough for the cats to go outside. Until the rains came.

Hi Christopher: The rain finally arrived and drove me inside after two glorious days of sunshine that allowed me to work in my Zen garden. The structure of your Golden Hinoki False Cypress (did I identify them properly?) are beautiful. They provide some privacy while sitting on your front porch yet allow you to "see." How did you accomplish that affect? Aren't they traditionally more bushy? Warm regards, Gypsy

Close. They are 'Gold Mop' Chamaecyparis pisifera. Hinoki is C. obtusa. These are in the early training stage of Niwaki - Cloud pruning, basically a form of topiary.

Wow, you've got a very nice looking winter garden now! I know how long that took; congrats!
I have tried to rebloom amaryllis for years and finally have had the best success just planting them in the ground for the summer in mostly sun (veggie garden?), fertilizing when I remember, and digging to store in the garage (shed?) in September. They don't bloom till April but who cares??

Bev the Under Garden of winter has indeed been an act of patience. It will only grow better by the year. I did consider holding the amaryllis in storage longer. They really don't like the light conditions in the house and I can't put them outside until Mayish.

Seeing your gold mop topiaried like clouds gives me an idea. I have an old gold mops that doesn't look so great. It doesn't really get enough sun. I thought about just taking it out this year. I might just try clouds. If they don't suit me I can always take out the plant.
Don't over work the first few days of warmth. We are back to the freezing mark. ugh... That one 60 degree day did spoil me. ha...

Lisa the Niwaki cloud pruning of the Gold Mop are in year three of training. This year's training session will be coming shortly. It's a fun experiment. Back to snow Wednesday morning possibly. I know better.

Your witches are delightful, and especially welcome at the end of winter.
