The Drip Of A Slow Melt

I kept trying to go to work this week, but the ground was still frozen and the snow was still there. It takes a while to thaw the earth.

Other things were responding to several sunny, near 50 degree days. I saw a red blush out there in the snowy white glare.

The two Witch Hazel 'Diane' had been holding off on bloom for the winter. The coming rain will change things.

As it was, things weren't melting so much as they were slowly shrinking piles of ice.

Drip. Drip.

This go round we are getting rain. The snow storm part will be farther north. An actual melt is now underway in the faster drip of liquid rain.

Eighteen hours after the first wet drops, plenty snow left to melt. It takes a while to thaw the earth. There is a flood watch just in case.
