It Could Get Ugly

Monday Night: Rain and snow showers likely, becoming all snow after 9pm. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 27. Blustery, with a northwest wind between 20 and 22 mph, with gusts as high as 33 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New snow accumulation of 1 to 2 inches possible.

One to two inches of snow? And that diagnosis is for down there in Clyde. Things tend to be a bit different up here in the clouds.

The Iris bucharica is just starting to bloom.

The cold in the low to mid twenties isn't the issue. (I can't believe I just typed that.) It is the potential crushing weight of wet snow.

The blooms of the Bloodroot, Sanguinaria canadensis last for about two days max. Once they have their sunny day, it's all over. The petals drop and seed formation begins. Today was their sunny day.

There will be plenty more that will wait to bloom until after the snow. Plus they are short and consist of a leaf and a flower. I don't think snow will squash them.

The Trout lily, Erythronium americanum on the other hand has a tall skinny stalk that supports the flower just like all those daffodils that have reached peak bloom.

I do vaguely recall a snow storm last year after which a large chunk of the daffodils did not get back up. The bulbapaloozathon had to continue on with out them.

Hopefully the flower gods will smile upon the ridge top garden.

Everything will be just fine.

It all depends on how you look at things. The exact same sunset from the start of the post takes on a whole new light by viewing it from a slightly different angle.

Hi Christopher! Boy...I go away for a long weekend and I sure have missed a lot here. You have been very busy taking advantage of the great weather! I LOVE the red trim on the porch roof and the concrete columns. The native garden tour was a treat and you finally got your "black cow cherry" shot. However, the flowers blooming on your ridgetop garden are just lovely! I hope the snow doesn't come and that it doesn't get too cold up there.

Were absolutely any of these plants in the garden last year?! I don't remember any of them. Lovely!

You're not the only one facing snow and such, according to my recent review of the garden blogging scene. Don't know if that helps or not.

Oooooo those blues in the first photo are gorgeous. The yellows are pretty too. That little iris is sweet.

Siria, the snow is here noe. The question is how much. I'm liking the red a lot too.

Chuck only the Trout Lily is new this year. No memory keeps things fresh, yea?

Lisa, it is interesting how that blue shot came from just pointing the camera straight out at the orange/red sunset. When I highlighted it, it turned really strange blue. Too blue and fake looking.
