There Once Was A Mighty Oak

After two hundred years it got knocked down and couldn't get back up again. Now it is wood looking for a hearth.

Once heavily shaded camellias struggle in the sun.

Yet they bloom on.

It was a mighty oak.

That supported other forms of life.

And cast a protective shade over ancient camellias.

Now a new garden style takes shape in the hot Florida sun.

And feral kitties stalk the grounds.

Life Changes.

I've tried twice to post a message but I'm having trouble with Google (go figure). I hope you found your mom doing well and your trip was good.

That was a mighty oak. Hope the Camilla's will be ok. Hope all was doing fine. Glad you are home.

It's always so sad to see a mighty oak fall. I am worried that one day my 200-year-old oak will also meet its end, though it certainly doesn't shelter any camellias here.

I hope you had a wonderful Christmas, Christopher! I don't always leave a comment here, but I visit often, enjoying seeing the changes made at my favorite cabin in the mountains.

Sallysmom, my mom is well and got a new laptop computer for Christmas.

Lola there has been all kinds of stress on those camellias, drought, strangling vines, more sun and old age. Time to plant more new ones.

Hi Rose. This poor oak got hit by lightning, a mini-tornado then a big wind til all that was left was one huge trunk/limb leaning over the house. It had to go.

It was a fine Christmas and the drive down and back wasn't too bad.
