The New Normal Begins

We have safely returned to the wild cultivated garden on the low spot of a North Carolina mountain top.

We went from 92 to 42 degrees with a stiff wind and a freeze warning for the morning.

The garden undaunted blooms on.

There was enough daylight left and a compelling desire for a brisk walk through a wind chilled garden to see what had changed in the last few days.

A few more rhododendrons have come in to full bloom.

And some blooms were gone.

Tomorrow we will begin the real journey to the new normal with a daily life and routines that will be different than they were before.

Christopher, I am so glad you & your Mother arrived home safely.
That is quite a change in temp. We are due mid to upper 40's here tonight. When I came in it had already gotten cooler.
Things have changed, but in a sense they have not. The beauty is still around you so your Dad is there with you. Time will ease the pain but the void will always be there. We must take one day at a time.

My dad has been gone 8 years now; I want to plant a tree in his memory but have been paralyzed by trying to decide what kind and where to put it! But when I do there will be a small marker beneath it (he was also cremated) and a place to sit and remember him. I hope you can do something similar in your spectacular setting. Take care and take time to adjust. My very best to your mom.

Good to see you back from your sad journey. It is great that you have the beautiful mountain to take you into its embrace. Chilly as it was I know it is good to be back. I bet it feels strange. Your most familiar place with a big part missing. Soon that too will fill with memories. All will be normal again.
