Hiding Among Bluebells

I wanted the pink Daisy Fleabane, Erigeron annuus. It has arrived, though it is more pink in bud than bloom. Edit and they will come. You just can't ever be sure who will come from year to year.

The world has turned green once more. Right now the Spanish Bluebells, Hyacinthoides hispanica are taking center stage. There is much more going on when you wander out there and look.

Down in the undisturbed forest the trilliums rule.

From breaking the surface to fat buds ready to pop, the Yellow lady Slipper orchid is setting record speed it seems. A week long bout of 80 degrees may have something to do with it. Is this a sign there could be more than one side dish of okra this year? I must check to be sure I have seed.

Bluebells carpet the ridge top garden.

And line the paths headed in all directions.

A second happy deciduous azalea has come into bloom.

Bluebells in blue, pink and white.

The diminutive Iris cristata hides close to the ground. It might be missed among all those bluebells.

Unless you know where to look.

Does your lady slipper orchid grow in an area of pine trees with needles on the ground? I've read and heard that Pink and Yellow Lady Slippers only survive when in the company of pines.

Danna there are no pines at all in the ridge top garden. Only baby ones in my garden. The Lady Slipper is no where near a pine.

My iris cristata was a month late in coming up. But sadly no sign of blooms. Our colder than usual winter may have had something to do with that.

Sallysmom they take our cold just fine. I did notice some had come up and got a little nipped by the late freeze. That is more likely to kill off the bloom. All the big iris got nipped too and they are not showing much bloom activity yet.

All so pretty. My "Lorlie" is blooming. Love it. Regular iris, no. Walking iris blooming & I just put her in the ground a couple weeks ago.
