Adding Fish

I have been adding fish to the Babbling Brook at the Posh Estate and Twin Falls Pond at the Inn this spring. There are always a few casualties in this process. I add a few more until they all seem to take.

The fish got sick in the Babbling Brook late last fall. I have no idea why. I lost a few and tossed a few. Over the course of a season there may be other casualties. I needed to replace the departed.

Just having more seemed like a good idea at Twin Falls Pond. I did lose one of my thirty five dollar butterfly koi last year. Otherwise they were doing great in this pond. More fish in the pond is like more plants in the garden. More is good.

I'm still waiting for all the plantings to wake up at Twin Falls Pond. In another couple weeks I will know if more plants are needed.

I work in a lot of mighty fine gardens. I'm always thrilled to come home. Miss 'Jane' the magnolia is putting on a stellar performance for her very young life. Is this what I have to look forward to in spring for the rest of my life? That would be all those springs in which the flowers are not frozen anyway.

Out on the far edge of the ridge top garden, Lunaria and Celandine Poppy are making a good attempt to cover an entire slope. I have faith in the poppy. One day.

A white Fritillaria meleagris.

We still have some perky daffodils.

One of the smaller evergreen azaleas has come into bloom. These azaleas are marginal and short lived up on the mountain top. Some last longer and grow bigger than others.

The Spanish Bluebells, Hyacinthoides hispanica are starting to bloom. They put on a great show. Be warned, they are highly invasive.

Welcome home.

The garden begins another new year.

Do you have a place for a little pond of fish? I think this is a great idea. The Posh Estate gives me ideas.

Lisa they are pretty and I do enjoy counting/watching the fish. They are also easy to build. You just need to be careful not to end up with a hideous pile of rocks. But, they are high maintenance, like a filthy swimming pool that is forever trying to turn green with algae. I will be satisfied by tidying the forest, putting in a path and a bench along my stream.

Forever in a forest is as good as it gets.
