I have more snow now, thirteen inches, than degrees. Only got ten of them. The snow however likes to accumulate on the driveway with a roaring wind assist and the drifts, at about three feet plus, are so big they are beginning to crest like waves ready to break.
The next wave arrives tomorrow night. Another eight inches, another foot perhaps. The snow has slowed for now, but it has not stopped.
The diagnosis is grim. It seems a little pointless to start shoveling now.

Do you need to go to town and stay? Is there a hotel/motel or is it to late to get out?
Sallysmom
Christopher,
Want to head east and join us by our new wood stove? That is if you could drive out! Stay warm my friend!
Sallysmom as long as I have power I am good. The road is still plowed, kind of down to one lane though and there are fools still out there driving. If I got desperate I could get to town.
Randy until I shovel I have to walk out. Now where are those piles of wood I split and the fresh log sections? I'd make a fire, but it sucks all the heat out of the basement.
So it looks like Snowmaggaddon may hit Greensboro starting Monday noon. OK, I can handle the snow, but the new forecast says maybe a half-inch of ice on top of the four to six inches of snow. That I can't handle. At least I have Sunday to stock up on the bird and cat food. I got all the people food Friday night when they were saying two inches which never materialized.
Ice your way, too, or just more snow? I see just snow for Boone and West Jefferson.
Oh my, this is beginning to sound serious. I sure hope you have plenty of joe & bakery goods. Do hope the power stays on.
Take care & stay warm.
Karen there is a hint of freezing drizzle, their term, Monday night into Tuesday after the snow begins and before turning back to snow, but at my elevation, I won't count on it.
Lola all hail and bless the power. If I get desperate for bake goods, there are peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and hot oatmeal.
If y'all wanna' come to Buffalo, the weather's fine!
It's beginning to sound as though you need a snow-blower rather than a shovel - that's a lot of digging and it's only the beginning of January!
You were talking about dreaming up projects for next winter, how about learning to bake bread, cake and cookies?
Gosh Christopher you have a sastrugi between you and the byway. I have been waiting all winter to be able to use that word. I haven't seen a sastrugi here...yet. I just love the word sastrugi. It seems so exotic. Like the snow waves I rarely get to see.
Dang, Christopher, I hope you stay safe and warm through this next bout of winter!
I am glad to hear you have the baked goods, Christopher. Hunker down, my friend. May your power stay on for the duration.
Frances
